Gemstones are the core components of any Gem. They appear as literal gemstones in various cuts, shapes, and colors located on a Gem's physical form.

Description

The gemstones represent as the Gem being itself. A Gem's physical body is a hologram with mass, as the gemstone acts like a power source or brain. If a Gem's physical form is badly damaged, they with retreat into their gemstones and regenerate.

The Answer 020

Any damage the gemstone receives will results in interference with a Gem's control over their physical form and powers. Shattering a gemstone will prevent the Gem from regenerating completely, essentially "killing" them.

During fusion, gemstones will change color to match their partner's. Fusions of the same Gem type will create a larger version of themselves.

Multiple Gems with the same gemstone can exist. Gemstone placement vary from Gem to Gem, even if they are of the same gemstone. Gems having similar gemstone cuts is very common, especially if they come from the same Kindergarten. However, Gems of the same type can have other gem cuts as well. They are also able to summon different weapons.

Abilities

Gems can manifest, store, and retrieve various objects from their gemstones. The most important of them being their personal weapons and physical bodies. Gemstones can also create magical bubbles to put items in for safekeeping. They can also be used as power sources for technology or other magical objects.

Gem Bubbles have a stasis-like effect on gemstones. When a Gem is "bubbled", the gemstone is prevented from regenerating/manifesting its physical body or weapon. They are essentially imprisoned indefinitely until the bubble bursts.

Shards of gemstones will retain some of their powers. Thus, they have been used in various experiments including gem drones, sculptures, and objects. Because shards have partial sentience, they are hard to control. Grinding them up is a solution, but its power becomes weaker.

Culture

The gemstone is a core aspect of Gem culture. They are the source of a Gem's entire being, including appearance, shape, and abilities. The Gems are not only named after their gemstone, but are also recognized by it from other Gems. Because there is little differentiation among Gems, individuality is a rare concept. Serial numbers based on facets and cuts are the only definite way to tell individuals apart.

It also seems customary for a Gem to keep their gemstones exposed. Covering them up completely seems to bother them.
